Spinal Cord Injuries Treatment Using Nanotechnology

Nanotechnology is the study and application of tiny things. This is majorly used in almost all fields of science such as biology, chemistry, physics, engineering, etc. Richard Feynman, also known as the father of nanotechnology, introduced the idea of controlling and manipulating atoms and molecules. Nanotechnology has led to interesting developments in the field of medical science.

Nanotechnology is currently under development. The current studies of nanotechnology comprise the delivery of drugs to the right cells with this technology and the use of nano-robots, nanochips, and nanowires in the future. It has also been discovered that nanotechnology has the potential for treating neural tissue. This can lead to the cure of many diseases that have no proper treatments nowadays.

In the future vision, nano-robots could be manufactured that would make repairs on things as tiny as a cell. Nanoparticles can be used to deliver drugs, restoring neural connections, etc. to specific cells. This way, damaged cells in the human body could be repaired easily and diseases could be diagnosed at an early stage.

Most of the sectors of nanotechnology are still under development. This includes nanoparticles which will be used to deliver chemo drugs directly to cancer cells. This would dramatically reduce negative impacts of chemotherapy on the human body.

Nanotechnology for Tissue Engineering

This technology will soon enable therapy of individual cells and engineering of damaged tissues. Hence, brain injuries and spinal cord treatment using nanotechnology will be an important milestone in the science field.

Nanotechnology is extremely beneficial for Spinal Cord Injury (SCI). This is an injury where certain tissues are damaged which leads to the destabilization of the communication between the patient’s body and the brain.

Nanotechnology, once fully studied and implemented, will be able to help organs repair themselves. Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s and paralysis patients will receive treatments which will cure them permanently. Spinal cord treatment using nanotechnology would be a magnificent cure for all those who are labeled disabled after a spinal injury due to accidents.

After a spinal cord injury, the spinal cord begins to ‘degrade’ and form scars where vital nerves are damaged. The patient’s quality of life decreases becoming dependent on help from others and their energy levels drop sharply.

Nanotechnology enables injection of tiny particles containing antioxidant enzymes in the patient’s body in order to limit the damage that has been caused by the injury and to limit scar formation. Also, there are studies of nanoparticles that could make biodegradable scaffolds that would aid nerve cells to regrow and restore their function of nerve signal transmission to and from the brain to the various parts of the human body.

The significance of the studies about nanotechnology is based on the observation of its effects long after the treatment is carried out.
